This is an exciting time to be a Membrane Operator. With the number of advanced water treatment facilities growing, AWT is quickly becoming a mainstream part of the water treatment portfolio. In a time when water scarcity persists, potable reuse is a viable solution and one that is being embraced across the Southwest Membrane Operator Association (SWMOA) territory. With this also comes confusion for the membrane operator, who is typically certified as either a water treatment operator or wastewater operator. The gap between the two warrants a certification bridge that recognizes the operator who is working with advanced treatment technologies.
After many years in development, and through cooperation among many water experts, some of whom are SWMOA Members, a certification program has been developed for the membrane operator – one that is jointly managed by the CA-NV AWWA and the CWEA. Recognizing the increasingly critical role the membrane operator serves in AWT Certification provides an avenue for professional and career advancement – something that is at the core of SMWOA’s mission. Through SWMOA’s Membrane Operator Certification program, this unique training supports membrane operators as they pursue specialized certificates that add-on to existing state-required water and wastewater certifications.
On June 24-26, 2019, SWMOA will be hosting its showcase Annual Symposium at the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa and the Riverside Convention Center in Riverside, CA.
I would like to invite you to attend this event to learn about the latest membrane advancements, AWT Certification and to network with colleagues and friends. I look forward to seeing you in Riverside!
